New Connexions Location in Cambridge

The Connexions centres have free access to the internet, comprehensive information on work, training, education and lifestyle issues. Connexions Information Advisers can help you with applying for jobs and signpost you to lots of very useful information. You can visit other Connexions centres during college holidays, but Long Road students are advised to see the Long Road Connexions Advisers.

New Connexions Location in Cambridge

Cambridge’s Connexions centre has now moved back into the Central Library from its temporary base at Shire Hall. Connexions will be open for business as usual from 29 September on the third floor of the library.

The phone number for Connexions within the library will be 01223 728 500.

  • Photocopier- 3 self-service black and white photocopiers. 1 on 2nd floor near the newspapers and magazines; 2 on 3rd floor - one near the CDs, DVDs and games and the other in the Cambridgeshire Collection ; 1 self-service colour photocopier on the 1st floor near the welcome desk
  • Fax - Staff-operated fax from 2nd floor welcome desk
  • Computers - 42 computers. 5 children's computers. 21 Learning Centre computers. 6 accessible computers. Use of the computers is available to library members and is free of charge, usually limited to 1 hour per day.
  • Printer - A4 colour on each floor. Printing charges can be found here Microfiche and microfilm reader printers - on 3rd floor in the Cambridgeshire Collection
  • Note/ coin change machines on 3rd floor

At College Day, nearly 100 universities and educational service providers will be on-hand to answer your questions about the application process, funding and US student life.

Remember to register online in advance to take advantage of free entry to this unique event! Registration is available on the door at a fee of £5/person (cash only).

Occupational, Speech and Language Therapy and Physiotherapy


For those considering going to university when they leave college the University of East Anglia (UEA) are holding an Open Day on 3rd October.

At the Open Day students will get the chance find out information about subjects like Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Physiotherapy.

Carrersbox Films Update


Careersbox, the UK's free careers film library, now has over 350 job profile films and the collection is still growing. This month they have added some new job profile films, showing real-life experiences.

New films
After a number of enquiries for a film about veterinary practice Careersbox is pleased to announce that they now have a fantastic Vet film in the library. They also been busy in Wales working on a collection of Welsh language films, all of which are available in English too. Don't forget that you can download any of their films by joining Film Club which will also means you receive updates every time they add new films to the library.

Film and Media Technician New Entrant Scheme opens for applications

Applications are now open for The Film and Media Technician New Entrant Scheme a 12-month training and work placement programme. This national scheme provides an opportunity for 10 successful applicants to gain the knowledge and skills required to establish a career in the technical areas of film and television media libraries. Available for new starters in the industry, it is delivered by FOCAL International, Film London, and the Hertfordshire Skillset Academy.

Potential applicants must be over 18 and new entrants to the industry and demonstrate a commitment to working in the film archive and library sector. Applications are now available at www.filmlondon.org.uk/filmandmediatechnician; the deadline is Friday 30 October 2009
