Engineering residential opportunity for Year 1 students

Engineering Experience Residential 

 
 
Thursday 11th - Friday 12th April 2019

We are now accepting applications for the annual Loughborough University Engineering Experience residential for Year 12 students.
The two day residential gives Year 12 students the opportunity to visit three of our engineering departments to experience studying this subject area at undergraduate level. In addition to this, students will be provided with all meals and an overnight stay in a hall of residence.


• Interested students are invited to complete an online application form at lboro.ac.uk/engexp
• Offers of places on the residential will be made based on the information received within their application form (rather than on a first come first served basis).
• The deadline for receiving applications is 12 noon on the 4th January 2019
• The cost of the event is £60 per student (to cover meals and accommodation).

Global Banking Internships with Credit Suisse





Steps to Success Scholarship student open evening
The Steps to Success scholarship program is a social mobility program for outstanding A-Level students in the UK who are from an underrepresented and/or underprivileged background.
The program offers a rare insight into the workings of a large and innovative global bank. The program consists of one four-week and one six-week summer internship in London, which will take place after year 13 and your first year at university. You will have the opportunity to explore different businesses at Credit Suisse, including Investment Banking, Capital Markets (IBCM) and Global Markets (GM). You’ll also receive scholarship funding for your tuition fees every year for the duration of the Steps to Success program.
On the afternoon / evening of December 5th we’re hosting an event for students who are interested in the program.
This is an invaluable opportunity to find out more about the Steps Social Mobility program, get hints and tips on how to make a successful application and a chance to network over refreshments and canapés with various Credit Suisse representatives across various divisions in the Bank.
The open evening is an invite only event for Year 13 students; if you wish to secure a space please register – confirmations will be sent closer to the date.

Opportunity for potential Philosophy/RS students at the University of Hertfordshire


Invitation to the Philosophy and Religious Studies Conference – Wednesday 16 January 2019.

 

We would like to extend an invitation to your year 12 and 13 students, de Havilland Campus, University of Hertfordshire.

 

We are offering a conference for students who are preparing for university and their Year 12 or 13 exams. They will be taught by experts in the fields of Philosophy and Religious Studies and find out what it's like to study the subjects at university. The day will be linked to their current syllabus to aid their current studies. Studying with us is about exploring, interpreting and enjoying different aspects of culture and thought - so come along and learn more about studying your favourite subjects.

Applications are now open for the Sutton Trust US Programme 2019.

The Sutton Trust US Programme helps high achieving state school students from across the UK explore US study and access leading universities through support, advice, UK residentials and a one-week trip to visit a variety of US universities.

Year 12 (England and Wales), S5 (Scotland) and Year 13 (Northern Ireland) students can now apply to be part of the eighth cohort.

It is free to take part in the programme.

Our online application form is based on the Common Application, an admissions platform used by over 800 American universities.

Among other things, the application will ask questions on your:
  • Academic profile
  • Interest in US study
  • Family & financial background information
  • Extra-curricular activities
You will upload a video of yourself, so that we can get to know you better.

You'll also have to coordinate a reference from a member of staff at your current school.

To be eligible to apply, students must:
  • Currently be in Year 12 (England and Wales), S5 (Scotland), or Year 13 in Northern Ireland.
  • Have always attended a state school or college (non-fee paying) in the UK 
  • Not hold US citizenship
  • Be from a low-income family (generally, this will mean a household earning £45,000 or less)
  • Be interested in US culture and higher education
We particularly welcome applications from students who:
  • Would be the first generation of their family to attend university
  • Have been eligible for free school meals

Step In Step Up Programme for Sixth Form Girls
Morgan Stanley is one of the world’s leading global investment banks and hosts a two day insight programme called “Step-in Step-up” (SISU) in their London Offices for Year 12 & 13 female students twice a year. This programme provides students with an in-depth introduction into investment banking alongside a comprehensive overview of how various divisions and roles interact with one another across the firm. 
Participants will gain an understanding of an investment bank's various functions and will meet a variety of inspiring employees throughout the two days who will share their career insights and experiences.  The programme includes engaging case-studies, group presentations, panel sessions, interactive workshops and networking opportunities.
SISU is held in February and July each year and the next intake will take place on 20th -21st February 2019. Please apply before the deadline of 6th Jan 2019 with your CV and cover letter.

What’s more, they’ll have the experience needed to step into a management role after three years and become one of our future leaders.
 

 

What are we looking for?
 
We’re looking for resilience, determination and good leadership skills, along with the flexibility to meet the changing needs of our business along with a minimum of 104 UCAS points (based on the new UCAS tariff or 260 based on the old tariffs).
